Why is this medication prescribed?

Varenicline nasal spray is used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (an eye disorder in which tears do not provide sufficient eye lubrication). Varenicline is in a class of medications called cholinergic agonists. It works by activating nerve endings in your nose resulting in increased production of tears in the eyes.

How should this medicine be used?

Here are general guidelines for its use:

Varenicline is available as a nasal spray. Normally, two doses of vannicline are sprayed into each nostril, separated by roughly 12 hours. Pay close attention to the instructions on the label of your prescription and ask your pharmacist or doctor to explain anything you do not understand. Utilize varenicline as prescribed. Use it exactly as advised by your doctor; do not take less or more of it.

The nasal spray bottle containing varenicline should not be shaken.

To use the nasal spray, follow these steps:

  • Take off the nasal spray pump’s safety clip and blue plastic cap.
  • You need to prime the nasal spray pump if this is your first time using it. With the applicator between your forefinger and middle finger and your thumb underneath the bottle, hold the bottle upright. Steer the bottle away from your face and upright. Seven times, firmly and swiftly press your thumb and fingers against the pump. Reprime the nasal spray pump with one spray if it hasn’t been used in more than five days.
  • If needed, blow your nose to cleanse your nasal passages.
  • As you delicately insert the nasal applicator tip into your nostril, tilt your head slightly back. Point the tip in the direction of the top of the ear on the side opposite the nostril while tilting. Take care not to let the applicator tip come into contact with your nose’s interior.
  • Breathe in slowly through your nose while placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth. To release a spray, simultaneously apply force and speed to the pump.
  • Take the opposite nostril and repeat steps 4 and 5.
  • Replace the bottle’s safety clasp and blue plastic cap after giving the applicator a quick wipe with a clean tissue.
  • There is enough medicine in each bottle to last 15 days of treatment.

It’s essential for patients to follow their healthcare provider’s instructions carefully and communicate any concerns or questions about Tyruko to ensure safe and effective treatment. Request a copy of the patient’s manufacturer’s information from your pharmacist or physician.
