Why is this medication prescribed?

Adults with recurrent mantle cell lymphoma or those that have not responded to prior therapies are treated with pirtobrutinib. This fast-growing malignancy starts in immune system cells. As a kinase inhibitor, pirtobrutinib belongs to a group of drugs. By preventing the protein from signaling cancer cells to multiply, it prevents cancer cells from spreading.

How should this medicine be used?

The oral tablet form of pirtobrutinib is available. Once a day, it is typically taken with or without food. Pirtobruninib should be taken every day at roughly the same time. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any instructions on your prescription label that you do not understand, and carefully follow their instructions. Exactly as prescribed, take pirtobrutinib. Never take it in quantities or frequencies other than those recommended by your doctor.

Do not split, chew, or crush the tablets; rather, swallow them whole.

If you encounter any negative effects, your doctor may need to alter your dose or instruct you to stop taking pirtobrutinib. When taking the medication, be careful to let your doctor know how you are feeling. Till your doctor instructs you to, keep taking the medication.

Request a copy of the patient’s information from the manufacturer from your pharmacist or physician.

Other uses for this medicine

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details if you think this drug may be recommended for other conditions.

What special precautions should I follow?

  • If you have any allergies, including those to any of the substances in pirtobrutinib tablets, other drugs, or food, notify your doctor right away. Request an ingredient list from your pharmacist.
  • When using pirtobrutinib, let your doctor and pharmacist know what prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, herbal items, and nutritional supplements you are currently taking or intend to use. Your doctor might need to adjust your medication doses or keep a close eye out for any negative side effects.
  • Please let your doctor know if you are taking any herbal supplements, especially St. John’s Wort.
  • If you have or have ever had kidney illness, a bleeding disorder, used blood thinners, arrhythmia (abnormal heart rate or rhythm), cancer, high blood pressure, or any other condition that may affect your immune system, let your doctor know right once.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking pirtobrutinib if you are having surgery, including dental surgery.
  • Plan to use protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen in addition to avoiding needless or prolonged sun exposure. Your chance of developing skin cancer may increase if you use pirtobrutinib.
  • Pirtobrutinib may make you more susceptible to some illnesses, so you should be aware of that. Before starting pirtobrutinib, your doctor will probably have you get a few vaccinations, and you’ll also likely be prescribed some extra medications to take while taking pirtobrutinib to help avoid infection.
  • You should be aware that pirtobrutinib may raise your risk of developing specific cancers, such as breast, genital, and urinary tract tumors in addition to skin cancer. Before beginning this medicine, discuss the risks of pirtobrutinib therapy with your doctor.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Maintain your regular diet unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

What should I do if I forget a dose?

As soon as you recall, take the missed dose. Skip the missed dosage and carry on with your regular dosing regimen if it has been longer than 12 hours. Never take two doses at once to make up for missing ones.

What should I know about storage and disposal of this medication?

Keep this medication out of the reach of children and tightly closed in the original container. Keep it at normal temperature, away from sources of extreme heat, and dry (not in the bathroom).

All medications should be kept out of the sight and reach of children, as many of the containers (such as weekly pill containers and those for eye drops, lotions, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and are simple for small children to open. Always lock safety caps and put the medication in a secure spot right away, up high and out of young children’s sight and reach, to prevent poisoning.

To make sure that pets, kids, and other people cannot take leftover pharmaceuticals, they should be disposed of in a specific manner. You shouldn’t flush this medication down the toilet, though. The best option to get rid of your medication is instead through a medication take-back program. To find out about take-back initiatives in your neighborhood, speak with your pharmacist or get in touch with your city’s waste/recycling department.

In case of emergency/overdose

Call 1-800-222-1222 to reach the poison control hotline in the event of an overdose. Call emergency services at 911 right away if the sufferer has fallen, experienced a seizure, is having problems breathing, or cannot be roused.

What other information should I know?

Maintain all scheduled times with your physician and the lab. To monitor your body’s reaction to pirtobrutinib, your doctor will request a number of lab tests.

Inform your doctor and the laboratory staff that you are taking pirtobrutinib prior to any laboratory test.

Never allow someone else to take your medication. If you have any queries regarding getting a prescription renewed, ask your pharmacist.

It’s crucial that you keep a written record of every medication you take, including any vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements. This list should also include any over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. When you visit a doctor or are admitted to the hospital, you should always bring this list with you. In case of crises, it is also crucial to have this information on hand.
