Why is this medication prescribed?

Crisaborole is used to treat eczema in adults and children 3 years of age and older. Eczema is atopic dermatitis, which causes the skin to be dry, itchy, and may produce red, scaly rashes. The drug crisaborole belongs to the group of drugs known as phosphodiesterase inhibitors. It functions by preventing the body’s natural chemicals that normally induce inflammation from doing their job.

How should this medicine be used?

Crisaborole is sold as a skin-applying ointment. Usually, it is applied twice daily. Utilize crisaborole daily at roughly the same periods. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any instructions on your prescription label that you are unsure about following. Follow the crisaborole directions precisely. Use it only as directed by your doctor, neither more nor less often.

Only the skin may be treated with the ointment. Avoid getting crisaborole ointment in your mouth, vagina, or eyes.

Follow these instructions to apply the ointment:

  1. Use soap and water to wash your hands.
  2. Make sure the skin is dry in the afflicted area.
  3. All of your skin’s afflicted areas should be covered with a thin coating of crisaborole ointment. Apply the ointment to your skin and gently massage it in.
  4. To get rid of any remaining crisaborole ointment, wash your hands with soap and water. If you are using crisaborole ointment to treat your hands, avoid washing them. Following the application of the ointment, a carer should wash their hands.

What should I know about storage and disposal of this medication?

Keep this medication out of the reach of children and tightly closed in the tube it came in. Store it away from excessive heat and at room temperature.

As many containers (such as weekly pill minders and those for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and are simple for young children to open, it is crucial to keep all medications out of sight and out of reach of children. Always lock safety caps and promptly stash medication up and away from young children where it is out of their sight and reach to prevent poisoning. http://www.upandaway.org

Unused prescriptions must be disposed of carefully to prevent pets, kids, and other people from ingesting them. You should not, however, dispose of this medication in the toilet. Instead, utilising a medicine take-back programme is the easiest approach to get rid of your medication. To find out about take-back programmes in your area, speak with your pharmacist or the garbage/recycling department in your city. If you do not have access to a take-back programme, see the FDA’s Safe Disposal of Medicines website at http://goo.gl/c4Rm4p for additional information.
