Why is this medication prescribed?

Ceftolozane and tazobactam are used together to treat a variety of illnesses, such as infections of the abdomen and urinary tract (stomach area). Moreover, it is used to treat specific types of pneumonia that patients who are on ventilators or who were hospitalised developed. Ceftolozane is a member of the cephalosporin family of antibiotics. It kills bacteria to work. Tazobactam belongs to the beta-lactamase inhibitor class of drugs. It functions by halting the bacterial oxidation of ceftolozane. The flu, the common cold, or any other viral diseases cannot be treated with antibiotics.

How should this medicine be used?

The injection of ceftolozane and tazobactam is available as a powder that must be combined with fluids and administered intravenously (into a vein) over around one hour every eight hours for four to fourteen days. What special precautions should I follow?

Before receiving ceftolozane and tazobactam injection,

  • If you have any of the following allergies: ceftolozane, tazobactam, piperacillin, and tazobactam (Zosyn), cephalosporin antibiotics such cefaclor, cefadroxil, cefazolin (Ancef, Kefzol), cefditoren (Spectracef), cefepime (Maxipime), cefixime (Suprax), cefotaxime (Claforan), cefuroxime (Ceftin, Zinacef), ceftazidime (Fortaz, Tazicef), ceftibuten (Cedax), ceftriaxone (Rocephin), cefuroxime (Ceftin), cephalexin (Keflex), penicillin antibiotics, any other drugs, or any of the components of ceftolozane and tazobactam injection. For a list of the ingredients, ask your pharmacist.
  • Inform your doctor and pharmacist about any additional prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, dietary supplements, and herbal products you are now taking or intend to use. Your physician might need to adjust the dosage of your drugs or keep a close eye on you for side effects.
  • If you have renal illness now or ever have, let your doctor know.
  • Inform your doctor if you are expecting, intend to get pregnant, or are nursing a baby. Call your doctor if you conceive while having an injection of ceftolozane and tazobactam.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Keep eating normally unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Tazobactam injection with ceftolozane may have adverse effects. If any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away, let your doctor know right once:

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Having trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Abdominal pain
  • Anxiety

Some adverse effects may be severe. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical attention if you have any of these symptoms:

  • Severe diarrhoea (watery or bloody faeces) that may be accompanied by cramping in the stomach (may occur up to 2 months or more after your treatment)
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Hives
  • Breathing or swallowing challenges
  • Fever and other indications of a new or deteriorating infection

Such adverse effects could be brought on by tazobactam injection and ceftolzane. If you have any strange side effects while taking this medicine, contact your doctor right once.

You or your doctor can submit a report to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting programme online or by phone if you have a serious side event (1-800-332-1088).

What other information should I know?
