Why is this medication prescribed?

Caspofungin injection is used to treat yeast infections in the blood, stomach, lungs, and oesophagus (tube connecting the throat to the stomach) in adults and children 3 months of age and older as well as some fungal infections that are resistant to other treatments. Moreover, it is used to treat severe fungal infections in patients with compromised immune systems. Echinocandins are a group of antifungal drugs that includes capsofungin injection. It functions by inhibiting the development of infection-causing fungus.

How should this medicine be used?

Caspofungin injection is available as a powder that must be dissolved in liquid before being administered intravenously (into a vein) once daily. Your general health, the sort of infection you have, and how well you respond to the medication will all influence how long it takes for you to complete your treatment. Caspofungin injections can be administered either in a hospital setting or at home. Your doctor will explain how to utilise the medication if you will be receiving caspofungin injection at home. Make sure you comprehend these instructions, and if you have any issues, consult your healthcare professional.

Depending on how you respond to the medication and any adverse effects you have, your doctor may start you on a standard dose of caspofungin injection and gradually increase it. Discuss your feelings regarding your treatment with your doctor.

During the initial days of caspofungin injectable therapy, you should start to feel better. Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not get better or worsen. After finishing the caspofungin injection, let your doctor know if you continue to experience infection-related symptoms.
