Why is this medication prescribed?

Women who are at least five years post-menopause and who are unable or unwilling to take estrogen-containing medications can treat their osteoporosis with calcitonin salmon. Bones that have osteoporosis become more brittle and susceptible to breaking. Salmon also contains calcitonin, a human hormone. By reducing bone deterioration and boosting bone density, it has an effect (thickness).

How should this medicine be used?

Salmon calcitonin is available as a nasal spray for application. Typically, it is applied once daily while switching nostrils each day. Use the calcitonin salmon at roughly the same time each day to help you remember to take it. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any instructions on your prescription label that you are unsure about following. As recommended, use calcitonin salmon. Use it only as directed by your doctor, neither more nor less often.

Although osteoporosis cannot be cured, calcitonin salmon aids in treatment. Even if you feel better, keep taking the calcitonin salmon supplement. Without consulting your doctor, never stop taking calcitonin salmon.

The printed instructions that accompany with the calcitonin salmon nasal spray should be read before using it for the first time. To learn how to use it, ask your doctor or pharmacist. When he or she observes, practise using the nasal spray.

Remove the plastic protective cap from the bottom of the spray unit before removing the rubber stopper from the container to assemble the pump and bottle. To tighten, insert the spray pump into the bottle and turn. After that, remove the spray unit’s top plastic cover.

The pump needs to be primed (activated) before being used for the first time with a new bottle. Follow these steps to prime the pump:

  1. Give the bottle some time to warm up.
  2. With the bottle upright, press down on the pump’s two white side arms at least five times to release a full spray. Now that the pump is primed.

Follow these steps to use the nasal spray:

  1. Place the nozzle inside one nostril while keeping your head up.
  2. To release the calcitonin salmon, depress the pump.
  3. Every day, use the opposite nostril.
  4. There are 30 doses of medicine in each container.

What special precautions should I follow?

Before using calcitonin salmon,

  • If you have an allergy to calcitonin salmon or any other drug, let your doctor and pharmacist know right away. Before you begin taking calcitonin salmon, your doctor might perform a skin test to make sure you won’t react negatively to it.
  • Inform your physician and pharmacist about all prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, dietary supplements, and herbal products you are taking.
  • Inform your doctor if you are expecting, intend to get pregnant, or are nursing a baby. Call your doctor if you become pregnant while taking calcitonin salmon.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

While utilising calcitonin salmon, it’s crucial that you receive enough calcium and vitamin D. If your nutritional consumption is insufficient, your doctor may recommend supplements.

What should I do if I forget a dose?

As soon as you realise you missed a dose, administer it. If the next dose is soon due, skip the missed one and carry on with your regular dosing plan. To make up for a missing dose, do not take a second one.

What should I know about storage and disposal of this medication?

Keep this medication tightly closed in the original container and out of the reach of children. Do not freeze calcitonin salmon nasal spray that has not been opened. Opened bottles should be kept upright and at room temperature. To keep the nozzle clean, replace the plastic cover. After 35 days, calcitonin salmon that has been opened and refrigerated should be thrown away.

Unused prescriptions must be disposed of carefully to prevent pets, kids, and other people from ingesting them. You should not, however, dispose of this medication in the toilet. Instead, utilising a medicine take-back programme is the easiest approach to get rid of your medication. To find out about take-back programmes in your area, speak with your pharmacist or the garbage/recycling department in your city. If you do not have access to a take-back programme, see the FDA’s Safe Disposal of Medications website at http://goo.gl/c4Rm4p for additional information.

Although many containers (such as weekly pill minders and those for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and are simple for young children to open, it is crucial to keep all medications out of sight and out of reach of children. Always lock safety caps and promptly stash medication up and away from young children where it is out of their sight and reach to prevent poisoning. http://www.upandaway.org
