Follicular lymphoma (FL), a slow-growing blood malignancy, is treated with copanlisib injection in patients whose disease has reappeared after receiving two or more courses of treatment with other drugs. Kinase inhibitors are a family of drugs that includes copanlisib injection. It functions by preventing the action of a problematic protein that instructs cancer cells to proliferate. This aids in preventing or reducing the spread of cancer cells.

Copanlisib injection is available as a powder that must be combined with fluids and administered through a vein using a needle or catheter. Typically, it is injected gradually over a 60-minute period on days 1, 8, and 15 of a 28-day therapy cycle.

After receiving a copanlisib injection, elevated blood pressure may persist for up to 8 hours. Prior to the infusion and for several hours after it is finished, your doctor will monitor your blood pressure. Tell your doctor right away if you suffer any of the following symptoms after taking the medication: lightheadedness, feeling faint, headache, or racing heart.

Depending on how you respond to the drug and any side effects you have, your doctor may lower your dose, postpone or discontinue your copanlisib injection treatment, or administer you additional medication. Discuss your feelings regarding your treatment with your doctor.

Before receiving copanlisib injection,

• If you have an allergy to copanlisib, any other medications, or any of the ingredients in copanlisib injection, let your doctor and pharmacist know right away. Request a list of the components from your pharmacist.
• Inform your physician and pharmacist about all prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, dietary supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking or intend to use. Be certain to bring up any of the following: boceprevir (Victrelis); carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Equetro, Tegretol, among others); clarithromycin (Biaxin, in Prevpac); cobicistat (Tybost, in Evotaz, Genvoya, Prezcobix, Stribild); conivaptan (Vaprisol); diltiazem (Cardizem, Cartia XT, Diltzac, others); Itraconazole (Sporonox, Onmel), ketoconazole, lopinavir with ritonavir (in Kaletra), mitotane (Lysodren), nefazodone, nelfinavir (Viracept), nevirapine (Viramune), paritaprevir, ritonavir, ombitasvir, and/or dasabuvir (Viekira (Rifadine, in Rifamate, Rifater), tipranavir (Aptivus), saquinavir (Invirase), and ritonavir with voriconazole (Norvir, in Kaletra, Technivie, and Viekira Pak) (Vfend). Your physician might need to adjust the dosage of your drugs or keep a close eye on you for side effects. Inform your doctor about all the drugs you are taking, even those not on this list, since many other drugs may also interact with copanlisib injection.
• Please let your doctor know if you are taking any herbal supplements, especially St. John’s wort.
• Inform your doctor if you have an infection, high blood sugar, diabetes, breathing or lung issues, high blood pressure, or liver illness, as well as any other relevant information.
• If you are pregnant, intend to become pregnant, or intend to father a child, let your doctor know right away. Pregnancy should not occur when having a copanlisib injection. Before starting this drug, you must have a pregnancy test that is negative. Use reliable birth control during your copanlisib injectable treatment and for one month following your last dosage. Use reliable birth control during treatment and for a month following your last dose if you’re a man and your spouse is capable of getting pregnant. Call your doctor if you or your partner become pregnant while taking copanlisib.
• Inform your doctor if you are nursing a child. While receiving copanlisib injection and for one month following your final dosage, you shouldn’t breastfeed.
• You should be aware that this medicine may lower both male and female fertility. Discuss the dangers of obtaining an injection of copanlisib with your doctor.

Grapefruit juice should not be consumed while taking this medicine.

Keep eating normally unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

Side effects from copanlisib injection are possible. If any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away, let your doctor know right once:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Mouth ulcers, sores, or discomfort
• Skin that feels hot, stinging, tingly, or numb
• Touch-induced pain
• Nose, throat, or mouth swelling
• Lack of power or vitality

Some adverse effects can be very harmful. Call your doctor right away if you have any of these signs or symptoms:

• Uncommon bruising or bleeding
• Cough that is new or getting worse, shortness of breath, or breathing problems
• Rash; skin that is red, itchy, peeling, or swollen
• Fever, chills, sore throat, or other symptoms of infection
• Headache, extreme thirst or hunger, or frequent urine

Other negative effects from copanlisib injection are possible. If you have any strange side effects while taking this medicine, call your doctor right away.

You or your doctor can submit a report to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting programme online or by phone if you have a serious side event (1-800-332-1088).

Keep all of your appointments with your physician and the lab. To monitor your body’s reaction to the copanlisib injection, your doctor will request a few lab tests.
