Why is this medication prescribed?

The combination of neomycin, polymyxin, and hydrocortisone otic drops is used to treat bacterial outer ear infections. Infections of the outer ear, which might develop after specific kinds of ear surgery, are also treated with it. Neomycin and polymyxin belong to the category of drugs known as antibiotics. They function by halting bacterial growth. A group of drugs known as corticosteroids includes hydrocortisone. It works by causing the ear’s natural chemicals to become active, which lessens swelling, redness, and itching.

How should this medicine be used?

Neomycin, Polymyxin, and Hydrocortisone Otic Combination is available as a liquid solution or a liquid suspension for insertion into the ear. For up to 10 days, it is often applied to the affected ear or ears three to four times each day. Take a mixture of neomycin, polymyxin, and hydrocortisone otics at roughly the same times each day. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any instructions on your prescription label that you are unsure about following. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for using the neomycin, polymyxin, and hydrocortisone otic mixture. Use it only as directed by your doctor, neither more nor less often.

Only use neomycin, polymyxin, and hydrocortisone otic solution in the ears. Use away from the eyes.

After the first few days of treatment with neomycin, polymyxin, and hydrocortisone otic combo, your symptoms ought to start to get better. Call your doctor if your symptoms don’t go away after a week or worsen.

Use the eardrops as directed to get started:

  • Warm the solution by holding the bottle in your hand for a couple of minutes.
  • If using the suspension, give the bottle a good shake.
  • Using a sterile cotton applicator, carefully clean and dry the afflicted ear canal.
  • Lay down while elevating the impacted ear.
  • Fill your ear with the recommended quantity of drops.
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip to your fingers, ears, or any other objects.
  • For five minutes, continue to lay down with the effected ear pointed upward.
  • If necessary, repeat steps 1-6 for the other ear. If you’d like, you can insert a cotton wick into the ear canal before saturating it with ear drops. Every 24 hours at the very least, the wick needs to be changed.

What should I know about storage and disposal of this medication?

Keep this medication tightly closed in the original container and out of the reach of children. Keep it away from excessive heat and moisture at room temperature (not in the bathroom).

Although many containers (such as weekly pill minders and those for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and are simple for young children to open, it is crucial to keep all medications out of sight and out of reach of children. Always lock safety caps and promptly stash medication up and away from young children where it is out of their sight and reach to prevent poisoning. http://www.upandaway.org

Unused prescriptions must be disposed of carefully to prevent pets, kids, and other people from ingesting them. You should not, however, dispose of this medication in the toilet.
