Chemical Name: EPINEPHRINE (ep-i-NEF-rin)
Twinject is an adrenergic stimulant used to treat severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) to insect bites, foods, drugs, or other allergens.Â Twinject may also be used to treat certain other severe conditions that affect breathing (idiopathic anaphylaxis). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking furazolidone or certain medicine for high blood pressure or heart conditions (nonselective beta-blockers). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking bromocriptine, chlorpromazine, guanadrel, guanethidine, trifluoperazine, or tricyclic antidepressants. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is an injection. A healthcare professional will provide detailed instructions for its appropriate use. This medicine also comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Be sure to ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine or how to use it. CHECK THE CONDITION AND EXPIRATION DATE of this medicine periodically. Replace this medicine if it is expired, contains particles, or is discolored. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if it is expired, contains particles, or is discolored. THIS MEDICINE SHOULD BE INJECTED into the front or side of the thigh. Do not inject this medicine into the buttocks, hands, feet, or into a vein. Seek immediate medical attention if you inject this medicine into any of these areas. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in the tube provided, away from heat, and light.
DO NOT INCREASE YOUR DOSE or use this medicine more often than recommended by your doctor. IF YOUR BREATHING PROBLEMS DO NOT IMPROVE, or if they get worse after using this medicine, seek immediate medical attention. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY OR IN CHILDREN because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy.
Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine, include nervousness or anxiety, dizziness, tremors, headache, nausea, vomiting, increased sweating, or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience rash, hives, itching, fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, severe headache, wheezing, increased difficulty breathing, or one-sided weakness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include fast or irregular heartbeat.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.
