Chemical Name: POLYETHYLENE (pol-ee-ETH-i-leen) GLYCOL (GLYE-kole) ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION
Moviprep is a laxative used to clean out the bowel before surgery or other procedures.Â Moviprep may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING MAY BE NEEDED if you are given this medicine while you are not fully conscious, or if you are also taking angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (such as lisinopril), diuretics (such as furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, spironolactone), or eplerenone. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including swallowing problems (such as a history of aspiration or regurgitation); an impaired gag reflex; electrolyte problems (such as low sodium or potassium levels); severe bowel inflammation (such as ulcerative colitis), bowel blockage, perforation, or other bowel problems; glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Your doctor will tell you when to start using this medicine. YOU MAY DRINK CLEAR LIQUIDS, soup, or plain yogurt up until 1 hour before taking this medicine. DRINK ONLY CLEAR LIQUIDS and do not eat any solid foods from the time you start this medicine until your procedure is complete. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE mix the contents of 1 pouch A and 1 pouch B into a glass container or into the container provided. Add 1 liter of lukewarm water to the container and mix until everything is dissolved. The final mixture will contain 2 liters. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED BY YOUR DOCTOR for drinking this medicine. It is usually taken in 8 ounce (240 mL) portions. SHAKE WELL before taking each dose. CHILLING THIS MEDICINE improves the taste. DO NOT ADD SUGAR, sweetening agents, or other additives to this medicine. BEFORE MIXING, STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature (59-86 degrees F) in a tightly-closed container away from heat and light. AFTER MIXING, STORE THIS MEDICINE in the refrigerator in a tightly-closed container. Use within 24 hours after mixing. Discard any unused portion of this medicine. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. Continue to take it as directed by your doctor. NOTIFY YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY if you are unable to finish taking this medicine before your exam or procedure.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. THE FIRST BOWEL MOVEMENT usually occurs about 1 hour after you begin drinking the medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Other medicines taken by mouth within 1 hour of taking this medicine may not be absorbed or be effective. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about how to take your other medicines with this medicine. Some of these products contain phenylalanine. If you must have a diet that is low in phenylalanine, ask your pharmacist if it is in your product. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may occur during treatment, include nausea, bloating, increased thirst, stomach fullness or cramps, vomiting, or rectal irritation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience seizure, persistent or severe nausea and vomiting, vomiting of blood, severe stomach pain, severe stomach bloating or swelling, slow or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, muscle weakness, or trouble sleeping. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.
