Common uses
This medicine is an amino acid used to treat carnitine deficiency. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. If you have serious kidney disease such as ESRD/dialysis, the intravenous (IV) form of carnitine should be used. The reason is that large doses of carnitine by mouth for long periods of time may result in serious side effects (e.g., seizures), interfere with dialysis (increased nitrogen wastes), and cause "fishy odor" to occur.

Before using
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including epilepsy, severe kidney disease, any allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions
